Mission Statement:
Our mission here at Laguna Behavioral Health Services, is to provide mental health services to assist the Laguna people and other surround communities to engage in reconnecting positive mental health within all ages, cultures and lifestyles. Our program staff will advocate for all demographics seeking LBHS services and support a variety of individualized treatment approaches within a safe and culturally appropriate environment to promote self-commitment, self-awareness, self-responsibility and self-reliance to bring together individuals, family and community.
Vision
The vision for the Laguna Behavioral Health Services is to continue providing the best possible mental health services to the Laguna people and other surrounding communities. We strive for more integrated behavioral health services with the primary care clinic, the court system, the schools, and our community, enhancing our clients’ empowerment, health, and well-being.
Laguna Behavioral Health Services (LBHS) is a trauma informed care provider, which provides a wide array of services to Laguna Pueblo tribal members, any other Native American, as well as any non-Native American individual, couple, or family, who possesses New Mexico Medicaid. Available services include:
- Mental health/substance use disorder counseling
- Mental Health Care Coordination
- Prevention services
- Behavioral health on-call crisis services to the community 24 hours a day, seven days a week
- Psychoeducational and psychotherapeutic programs
- Parenting education – (Circles of Security)
- Men’s Positive Change
- Wellness Court Program (MRT) for adults
- A State Certified DWI School
- Prevention programs in school and after school for youth within the community
As a Behavioral Health unit here in the Pueblo of Laguna, we are considered as an Intensive Outpatient treatment (IOP) provider. Oue services focuses on recovery, relapse management, and copying strategies with services like group therapy, individual counseling, educations sessions and outreach services by our prevention staff. In addition, the average 3 to 9 hours of treatment per week is also a considered under the realm of an IOP program.
The treatment modalities use by our State Certified Licensed Clinical Psychologist, Mental Health and Substance Abuse clinicians are: Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)-Motivational Interviewing (MI)-Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)-Somatic Psychotherapy-(with children, some families and adults ) Sand Tray Therapy-Supportive Psychotherapy-Behavioral Modification-Imaginal Progressive Desensitization-Psychodynamic Psychotherapy-Gestalt Techniques-Mindfulness based recovery-Moral Recognition Therapy (MRT for Healing to Wellness Court patients), and the Holistic (Cultural) Approach in our prevention settings.
As a program in progress, our focus revolves with change; as we continue to look towards more innovative ways of services to enhance our community needs, our traditional values and teachings are to be used to identify who we are as a human being, with the understanding of our purpose in life. As we move forward, additional programs, and psycho-educational groups will be added to the list of services provided by our program (LBHS).
