Program Overview

The Pueblo of Laguna (POL) begin the Geographic Information System (GIS) / Global Positioning System (GPS) program in May 2010.  Since then, the program has been collecting existing spatial data on and round POL lands.  The program is using GPS to map infrastructure, in addition to collecting existing public data.  The GIS program is currently using ESRI ArcMap 10, Trimble Pathfinder and Business Center to process GPS data.  Thus far, the program has assisted with data development for the Planning program which includes the Village Comprehensive Plans, wall maps and address maps books for Fire & Police departments, just to name a few.  Additionally, the GIS/GPS program provides training to other Pueblo programs in collection of GPS data and minor editing or map making processes.  The GIS Program is integrating electronic and paper maps, aerial photography, and geographic data into the GIS to create and maintain a Pueblo-wide geographic database.

The Pueblo of Laguna’s GIS/GPS Program promotes the integration of GIS technology into the Pueblo’s business practices to improve government service, enhance the ability to find and compile spatial information, and facilitate data collection and analysis which shall aid in making better informed decisions by mapping Pueblo infrastructure.
